I'm learning Japanese because I've always wanted to learn the language. When I was young, I came across anime-essentially the Japanese version of graphic novels and comic books. And so I grew up watching anime and reading manga rather than my own culture's cartoons and graphic novels. The language barrier, however, created instances where many times I wouldn't be able to explore the genre as I wanted.
